Weekly AGR Session: 15 May 2011

Hey people!!

The circuits on the AGR Server are already starting to crackle, hum, and the CPU at tastyspleen.net is getting ready to crunch those numbers … who killed who? – when? – was the flag capped? .. or not? – its really amazing to think that there’s this machine at the centre of our TF world, which simply processes 1’s and 0’s. All the agony of defeat, and the ecstasy of victory, all controlled by an impartial judge. Science fiction is full of evil robots, but its entirely possible that robots will be fairer than humans. Anyway, enough of this monologue – I know you’re really here to get details of the coming battles, at that Echelon of Excellence I always refer to as the:

What: Weekly AGR Session

Where: tastyspleen.net:26666

When: Sunday 22:00 GMT. Convert this to your timezone here.

Who: Artisans of the Quake world

Why: To display your wares (Yes I know I could have said warez, but its a metaphor, not a pun)

MAP SCHEDULE

1. 2ds2 (50 minutes*)
Was quite fun last time, lets see how we go this time.

2. sewer1p (60 minutes)
I might try FR D – unless its a pre-organised team all committed to doing their job properly, Blue will eventually lose – though there have been some amazing games lately, especially the dune1 game last month, where Blue was in the lead for the 1st half.

3. svalley3 svalley4 (60 minutes)
I *think* there was a technical issue with this map last time we played. I’ll test before this weeks Session if I can, check this page before the game to see if it’s still scheduled. yes there WAS a technical issue – I couldn’t see the blue flag anywhere, but I tested an svalley4, and DID see a Blue flag, so lets see how we go. The map is a little bit too ‘mazey’ for my taste (I hate confusing, maze like maps), but I did find the flag so.. let’s see what happens. It was requested – so let the players decide, and leave comments below.

4. 2mfield4 (60 minutes)
A strange map – I usually D at the FR area, or (even better) if someone is taking care of the wind tunnel path, I move into the lower spiral; have never tried RR D w mfield4 – seems too risky..

* times may vary depending on player numbers, vibe, and quality of teamplay.

OMC’s tip: ALWAYS tell teammates where the flag is!

DREAM TEAM ORGANISATION
I’ve been horrendously bust the last few weeks, so I haven’t had time to follow through w the dream team – but hey, I don’t *have* to be the one to organise it – there’s a forum here, where anyone can request teammates, and discuss what strategy you’d like to try on what map. As always, I’m happy to follow any plan, so if there’s a particular map you’d like to test a certain strategy on, let me know, and lets DO IT!

VENTRILLO
Seriously people, I can’t think of a single reason why all players shouldn’t (at least) be listening in. I know one or two have bandwidth issues, but really, its absolutely silly for people to be typing away frantically. Whats the issue? Is there some ‘barrier’ I’m not aware of?

See you all Sunday!

Hey doc, I had a look at 2ds2, and realised that THAT’S the map I meant for Game 1 this week – NOT ewg3 (!). Thanks for the comnment! I’ve edited the post.

(Man these map makers should have come up w better descriptions , these cryptic names do not help!)

2ds2.. I should give the map a lookover. As for these forgotten maps.. we could use some .loc’s!

    2ds2: brilliant!
sewer1p: frustrating but great, I was Red and we lost! Full credit to Blue for a great job!
svalley4: I found this map confusing and frustrating. Struggled to find the FR. Others DID like it however so looks like we will play it again at some stage, so hopefully it will be easier to navigate next time.
2mfield4: excellent game, with plenty of sneaky tactics.
    I’ll upload the demos now
