AGRv6: the testing begins

Hi all!

As you know, AGR has to deal with the challenge of pleasing old skool players who like (love?) AGR ‘just the way it is’… and the challenge of attracting new players, as well as keeping things fresh and interesting for current players. This has been a tough balance. There’s no way to know if an map/idea is great or not without putting it to the test, if an actual game. The ‘solution’ has been dub Saturdays “Experimental AGR”, and keep Sundays “Classic AGR”. If you want non-stop action (apart from Intermissions), tried and tested maps, and ‘no surprises’, AGR gameplay, come along Sunday 6pm EST. If you’re not afraid of change, and want to go where no man has gone before, come along Saturday for TF featuring the latest, most cutting edge experiments. Yes, some stuff might unbalance the gameplay. Some stuff might not work. And yes, there might even be … (gasp)… crashes!! Yes, there will be new untested maps that might need refinement. Of course the focus will be on the gameplay, so I wont put anything that I know that is broken (this isn’t a ‘testing session’, I’m there to PLAY), but the point is that this is where new and exciting ‘stuff’ is put to the test. Which brings us to:

Last week, we had the first live AGRv6 test, damn I was nervous. FTE players got some nice sneak previews of upcoming stuff, and those not using the AGR client (and not seeing any of the new stuff) probably wondered what all the fuss was about. It all went surprisingly well.. Lets see what happens this week! “But OMC – what’s in AGRv6?”. Lotsa stuff. As I explain in the video, I’ve disabled most if it, to make sure the ‘guts’ of it works. You might notice the animations look different, skins are different, this is all normal. My main focus at this stage is “can everyone still connect”? So apart from connecting/getting disconnected issues, what I need you to tell me about (at this stage) are any missing textures, white textures, (either on playerskins or in the world), and any actual errors you may get. Note: Sunday will be Classic AGR so this only applies to Saturdays Session at this stage.

If you’re reading this, you probably have already followed the instructions here and installed the AGR Client. If so, just download the new exe from here,¬†unzip it into your AGR folder, replacing the AttackersGoRed.exe already there

You might get an ‘ineligible server message’ which nornally is MY FAULT, but it might be EZQuakes fault. Yes, really. Reconnect and see if that ‘fixes it’. Yes, really. If no go, then.. well.. frankly.. contact EZQuake.. or… you should be using the proper damn client to begin with!!
