Weekly AGR Session: 24th April 2011

Calling all TFers!

My heart is already pumping at the thought of what will go down this Sunday at 22:00 GMT. It’s the last Sunday of the Month, and that means 1 thing – Spamadelica! Team Damage and Mirror Damage = OFF. The gibs will fly, the intensity will be incredible, and the sheer rush will be intoxicating at that Basement of Brutality we know as the:

What: Weekly AGR Session

Where: tastyspleen.net:26666

When: Sunday 22:00 GMT. Convert this to your timezone here.

Who: People who have understanding girlfriends.

Why: Because if she finds out her man is into ‘computer games’, it could affect your sex life.

MAP SCHEDULE

1. 2fortflood (50 minutes*)
This map got a bit of a negative reaction the first time it was on (to say the least) so I’m putting it on early – and for 52 minutes. It’s definitely ‘different’, and my own reaction the first time was ‘wtf’ – but to my surprise, it grew on me. I know the coop players have been playing this in the last few weeks, so let’s see if their skills w monsters helps them when dealing with human enemies.

2. canyon1(60 minutes)
It’s been quite interesting lately to play the traditional ‘easy to D’ game 4 maps earlier. Canyon always gives good TF, looking forward to it.

3. dune1(60 minutes*)
Ok, from one of the easiest maps to D, to one of the hardest. Any Guru who wants to show their skills is invited to go Blue; any Guru going Red for dune1 is going to look very … insecure. Seriously. Blue: watch the upper rr!!!

4. spit1(60 minutes)
We’ve been getting nearly 20 players in the last few weeks, so I’m not sure how many ppl will be here for spit1, but hey – the more the merrier, and w Spamadellia – it means the action will be absolutely furious!

* times may vary depending on player numbers, vibe, and quality of teamplay.

AGR VENTRILLO SERVER

=================================

OMC’s tip: Time your grapples so that there are a few teammates nearby to distract the enemy. GrappleSlip means that grappling w many enemies around is now much more dangerous!

PROGRESS REPORT: PROJECT ‘DynaMirror’!!!
It’s here, and it’s ready. It will premiere next week – there will be a separate post w details.

NEW: ‘SLOW HEAL’ HEALTHBOXES!!!
Healthpacks now work like the TF2 style dispensers. You stand on them, and they slowly give you health, rather than giving it to you ‘instantly’. “Wtf OMC, we’re gonna be standing around waiting to heal now? I thought AGR was action all-the-way?”. Relax, there’s good news as well:
BAD NEWS: It will take a little longer to top up your health.
GOOD NEWS: We’re only talking a 3-5 second wait, so it’s not a huge difference.
BAD NEWS: You cannot do anything whilst ‘healing’
GOOD NEWS: The healthpacks do not ‘disappear’ after use – they are always there – so there’s no more waiting time for healthpacks to reappear!

VENTRILLO on Blue?
Well it just makes sense – of course people are free to go whatever side they want, but as those of you on ventrillo know, it really is a different game – ie MUCH MUCH BETTER.

DICKHEADS
There was one last week, and (totally immersed in the gameplay) I tried to ignore him, possibly for too long. I’m still looking into a system to exclude the dickheads, in the meantime remember that you can type “ignore playername” and you will not be distracted by the persons non-game related BS.

See you all Sunday!

    2fort maps rule, period.

Sounds like a very fine lineup. Sadly, I probably won’t catch you guys as we are having an Easter reunion. Happy Easter to all of you!

I’d like to see Canyon more often. Also, I remember asking you about Hedge7 a long time ago and just wanted to mention it again.

    What a brilliant Session!
    2fortflood:
After a restart we had a (imho) reasonably GG, I was Blue Eng in the FR. This map is kinda disconcerting for me because it looks so familiar (of course), but the water makes the game very different. Very interesting, and might put it on again next month.
    canyon1:
Well I had a lot of fun, but spent most of the game in the water tunnel w a tele, so I actually don’t know what ppl were doing elsewhere.
    dune1:
The first half was utterly brilliant! Out front D with 2 guys looking out for dets meant that after 30 minutes Red still hadnt opened the side tunnel path – it was Blue 50 – Red 00 (an unheard of score in dune1). Unfortunately Red did break through and capped, and then Blue lost it, and retreated into the base, which was suicide, as the base can be completely bypassed via the tunnel entrance. I tried and tried to get Blue to go back outside but it was useless. Blue D imploded into nothing, and Red had an easy time in the ensuing capfest. The first 30 minutes were first class TF though!
    spit1;
A gteat game, messy, bloody, and Gibtastic. Spend most of the hour doing “turretted Tesla D” circa OMC 2000 solnet style. Briliant game.

Overall a great Session, one of the best for ages. Awesome TF action, and minimal BS. Made OMC very happy – thanks to all!
ps. Also amazing 2farms action post Session (I uploaded the demo) Where Blue actually had a system which worked – interestingly enough using the same principle of RR D. Damage enemy before the FR (in this case the Sheep field), so even if they DO pass the main D section, they are damaged, and easy pickings for the FR/Sheep field defence. Nice work!
pps Get your map requests in for May now!
ppps. Sorry I’ve been slack uploading demos, thanks to Sapphired for reminding me that they really should be uploaded immediately after the Session, and I’ve done so. Todays games have 250411 at the end.
