Timeslot trouble?

Hey people!

Ok, I’m getting a little concerned…  We’ve had TWO Weekly AGR Sessions in the NEW Saturday 23:00 GMT timeslot, and so far they have been SMALLER, not bigger than the Sunday ones! I mean, it was a fun Session today, and it was especially GREAT to see all the new players.. but imho they didn’t get their genuine dose of REAL AGR ACTION, and I myself feel a little.. unsatisfied. 😕 I’ll be logging into the server at 23:00 GMT today (Sun 26th Jan) in case anyone’s around .. I need my FIX! 🙂 In the meantime.. … was today a fluke, or is something else going on..?  Possibilites:

1. “The Poll was somehow corrupted”
I’m not sure how this could be. You had to register to vote, and possibly (I’m still learning the forum software) you had to register to even see the discussion. I did ask for people to make a post and reveal how they voted, so we know who voted for what – this is one sure way to make sure all votes are legit, and are by regular players. Have I missed something?

2. “It’s just that time of year”
That’s possible, in that case, just chill, and the games will get bigger in the next few weeks. I hope this is the case.

3. “People haven’t read their emails and don’t know about the Saturday games”
Well if people aren’t reading their emails ( or gave me an email address they rarely check), then SHAME ON THEM!! Seriously, this is not something I can do anything about. I know for a fact that many regular players have some aversion to reading their emails .. this is not something I can address – any ideas? Maybe it’s a ‘reading English’ issue, but I’m not even sure if these guys watch the AGRMania videos..  maybe I should do a video/spoken version of this post to see make sure everyone can read/hear me speak it?

4. “People have quit playing”
Well, this is possible, but so many, so quickly? Maybe it was some insane ‘new years resolution’. If so, that’s a good thing – because we all know what happens with them! 🙂

5. “Quakeworld is dying anyway”
This is true, but this has been happening for a while now, most servers in the Quake world are dead, I think MTF’s ‘Frag Fridays’ is the only other Q1 TF game in town now. In any case, AGR has always been a ‘niche market’, and has always survived in spite of the decline of the Quake world in general.

Ok, I’m not gonna panic, AGR has survived fluctuations in player numbers before, AND the GOOD news is that we have NEW PLAYERS, many of whom were there today (HI fan_q1, AnM60ForJesus, SilentOne20000, Prof.Al Spaztic, and leroy!!) . If you’re  readin’ this guys, sorry it wasn’t as huge as you might have been expecting, I’m gonna do everything I can to make sure next weeks AGR Session is back to its BIG, BEAUTIFUL HEART POUNDING best.  “Whacha gonna do OMC?” I’m gonna do two things:

1. Show up on Sundays as well. 23:00 GMT.
For the next few weeks, tomorrow (January 26th) included, I’ll be on the server at 23:00 GMT to see if people show up. Maybe those who voted ‘yes’ to the timeslot change are players who play ‘every now and then’, and the two who voted ‘no’ are regular players. You tell ME people! I just checked btw, and the ‘yes’es are up to ‘9’!

2. Ask (BEG!) TF fans to PLEASE make a special effort to show up on time.
If you love TF, and if you’re reading this, I know that you do – that means you like me ALSO crave HUGE, 32 player games. We want the same things, people. We just need to work together. We need to be smart about this and make it happen. Help ME help YOU. If you can just show up for 1 hour a week-  make that hour ‘Saturdays 23:00 GMT’. Don’t disappoint your TF brothers who show up on time, ready for action. Don’t disappoint the new guys, potential TF Gurus of the future!  If you’ve changed your mind, and  prefer a different time, let me know! If I’ve made some error/blunder with this timeslot change, let me know!

I’ll be on the server today, Sunday 26th @ 23:00 GMT, and I’ll stick around for 1/2 an hour  to see if anyone shows up. If I don’t see you there, I’ll see you at the next Saturday at this week’s upcoming:

What: Weekly AGR Session

Where: tastyspleen.net:26666

When: Saturday 23:00 GMT. Convert this to your timezone here.

  • I had to work till 10 last night, and be back at work at 6 so I couldn’t play. I will show up to-nite tho.

  • Hello OMC 😀

Thanks for your kind words for the newbies and the help during the game.

I also really apprecitate your honnest thought about the situation and deep “think tank” you do… you have a good idea being present Sunday too… but do you “need” to be there like to admin something or is a game can be played anytime by anyone… just a newbie question will try out soon anyway 😀

Also I’m a “NetQuake” player… it is really different from QuakeWorld… and with the discipline (and determination) you apply it made the difference for me to jump into QW and I have no regrets.

In the NQ community it is the same as QW probably… people are not as active as they used to be. So it is kind of hard to organize games like 4-4… yes can you imagine that.

So what I just wanted to say is with good discipline and determination you will make it AND yes new players are really important… really!!

I wonder if you have a “plan” about recruiting… a good plan would be to create a good team of people around you OMC to help… One Man is probably not enough to do all… I’ll come back to you OMC soon to offer some help if you agree having a bigger team to recruit in particular 😉

    Keep the good work!!

(and yes why don’t you make a video to talk instead of the necessity to read… video conferencing hehe).

I’m not an active player but this site might be useful to some of you:

To thrive, CustomTF needs to be ported to a newer and more easily accessible standalone program. I know it is a monumental undertaking, but you’ll have the current version of AGR to enjoy while you are working on the new standalone program.

Even though I don’t play anymore, I still care what happens to you all and to our common love, CustomTF.

I hope to one day play again when you have ported it to a new platform and completed the standalone version.

    Thanks for the feedback guys.

fan_q1: the main thing people can do to ‘help the cause’, is to make sure they show up on time every Saturday @ 23:00 GMT, and play at least 1 game.

We did actually get to have a couple of 4 vs 4 games this week, and that’s in spite of the absence of many players due to the Superbowl, so this coming Saturday should be a good turnout.

Although we had a complete slaughter match of a well6, it was nevertheless a very entertaining game, definitely worth a replay. Here’s the demo. I blame myself for the disaster as well, bad decisions (didn’t close the hole earlier!), and I tried to ‘innovate’ ( RR D 90’s style?) when Blue hadn’t even stabilised their FR D. An intense satisfying game nonetheless.

Beltan: AGR has already been ported to a more accessible standalone program – FTE. The install package will be ready for testing soon!
